Geothermal Heating And Cooling System: An Ideal, Double Bonanza


The system that provides space conditioning for cooling, humidity control and heating is known as a geothermal heating and cooling system. These are systems that provide water heating. This is done either to replace or to supplement the conventional water heaters. These systems work by moving heat rather than convert chemical energy to heat like a furnace does.

A geothermal heating and cooling system has basically three major parts or subsystems. The first part is the geothermal water pump. This pump is used to move the heat between the building and the fluid in the connection of earth. The second subsystem is an earth connection that transfers the heat between its fluids and the earth. Lastly, the distribution subsystem delivers the cooling or heating to the building.

Each of these systems may have a de-super heater. This works to supplement the water heater of the building. It can also become a full demand water heater that is competent to meet all the hot water needs of the building.

A geothermal heating and cooling system has many advantages for the user. It helps to protect our natural resources. It is a system that doesnt burn fossil fuels. Therefore, it doesnt release any harmful carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It has the ability to store the heat of the earth. It uses the heat which the earth absorbs from the heat of the sun. Thus, it is a clean, environment-friendly system which fulfils the efficiency factor too.

It is important for a user to be aware that geothermal heating and cooling systems are extremely environment friendly. In fact, installing a geothermal system is almost equivalent to planting more than seven hundred trees! This is a fact, not a tagline!

As a matter of fact, these systems are extremely simple. They are no more complicated than an air conditioner or a refrigerator. They operate by sending a fluid through a loop of pipes running underground. When the system is used for heating, the fluid present inside the pipes absorbs the heat energy naturally present in the earth. Thus, it brings the heat up into the house.

This energy is then concentrated by a compressor which raises the temperature of the house. The conventional home ductwork then circulates this warmth in the house. This makes the house completely thermostatically controlled and comfortable to settle in.

When this system is used for cooling, the system does the exact opposite of the heating system. It absorbs the heat from the house and takes it through the underground pipes. This cools the fluid down and eventually the house is cooled as well. So this is what is called the ideal double bonanza!

A geothermal heating and cooling system is highly efficient and has low operating costs. In fact, it is the lowest cost solution for cooling or heating.
